We don't just want it to be fresh and delicious, we want it to be good, good for the planet, good for our bodies, and good for the hard-working folks involved in growing it. This is our aim for every piece of produce that we source. So, while the list of farms that we source from changes every day, our mission stays the same: to source only the highest quality produce that has a positive impact on your plate as well as the planet!

Reducing food waste is at the heart of our mission. To take on food waste at the scale that we do, we work with dozens of growers and hundreds of types of produce, so the answer to, “Where does your produce come from?” is not always a short or simple one. Yet, while the list of farms that we source from changes every day, the quality and intention remains the same–we will only source good produce.

Our principles

We are committed to
reducing food waste

2

We are committed
to quality.

1

We are committed to reducing food waste.

Building a more sustainable and less wasteful food system is at the heart of our mission as a company. To do this, we source from growers that we trust who have significant quantities of produce (organic and conventional) that might not otherwise find a home. While we try to source as locally as we can in each of our cities, we will always “follow the waste.” This means that we do source from out of state–and out of the country–when necessary and appropriate (we list where each item was grown, so you’ll always know!). Every day, produce travels hundreds, if not thousands, of miles only to go to waste. We’re determined to turn this trend around so more produce can end up on peoples table instead.

2

We are committed to quality.

We carefully vet all of our growers to make sure they’re consistently delivering high-quality produce. Before partnering with a grower, we make sure their produce is up to our specifications, meaning that it's only wonky in its shape, size, color, and never old or damaged. To end up in your box, a piece of produce must be just as fresh, tasty, and nutritious (if not more so!) as its grocery store counterpart. All of our organic growers are certified organic, and many of our growers are USDA GAP (Good Ag Practices) certified, which means that their produce is additionally inspected for quality by a 3rd party. Once any produce arrives at our warehouse, it is rigorously checked for quality and stored at the appropriate temperature so it arrives at your door fresh and delicious.

3

We are committed to
supporting farmers financially.

Historically, farmers had a hierarchy of bad outcomes when it came to their “ugly” produce. They either had to leave it behind in their field and let it go to waste, or would break even or even lose money selling it to a processor or as animal feed. We offer them a better alternative: a fair price for what they grow and the satisfaction of seeing it end up on people's tables instead of in landfills. Something our growers say about their produce all the time is, “We love all of our children,” a sentiment that we proudly echo. We’re honored to reward them for their hard work and help them feed more people while wasting less labor, water, and fossil fuels.

4

We are committed to
transparency and honesty.

We know that trust is at the heart of all of the food we buy. This is why we always share where your produce is grown and why it’s “ugly” when you go to customize your box. We believe in providing as much information as we can about the produce in your box. Our supply team has decades of experience working with growers and we take the integrity of terms like “organic” very seriously because we know that you do too. Additionally, all of our organic produce is non-GMO.
