Los Angeles-General Manager

About The Job
As the General Manager for our operations in Los Angeles, you are directly responsible for managing our outsourced fulfillment operations in Los Angeles. You will be embedded in the facility of our co-packer (CSF) to ensure all aspects of fulfillment, from receiving to prep to sorting to pack to delivery, go smoothly on a weekly basis. You are also responsible for ensuring that CSF has the operational capacity to meet our long-term growth targets. You will be the main liaison between Imperfect and CSF (as well as our delivery company in LA) to ensure that all procedures are followed and that the highest quality of boxes are being delivered to customers.

Day-to-Day Operations

  • Ensure prep and packing are done to the standards set by Imperfect Produce
  • Make sure CSF is informed of all prep needs for the week
  • Provide CSF with proper receiving documentation
  • Update inventory in ordering spreadsheet and Delivery Biz Pro to ensure we have enough items in stock to fulfil orders
  • Work with Customer Care to notify customers of shorts and substitutions
  • Keep all Los Angeles paperwork organized
  • Coordinate with marketing team to ensure we have appropriate collateral for boxes
  • Make sure we have enough supplies of labels/bags to pack boxes
  • Provide CSF with accurate information for invoicing us for services
  • Manage delivery operations in Los Angeles to make sure drivers are properly trained and deliveries are being made with appropriate care and effectiveness
  • Ordering and Curating Weekly Boxes
  • Curate weekly produce boxes, based on availability lists, current inventory, and projected orders, and according to Imperfect guidelines
  • Responsibility for maintaining produce cost targets for our boxes
  • Responsibility for maintaining pricing targets for each items (beating grocery stores by 30% and hitting profit margin targets
  • Order shorts from LA vendors to ensure we have enough stock in emergency situations

Long-Term Planning

  • Coordinate with HQ and CSF to ensure that operations in Los Angeles can keep pace with demand while maintaining our high quality standards
  • Work with Chief Innovation Officer and VP of Operations to roll out new delivery areas across the Southern California region
  • Use the weekly feedback report created by the Marketing department to ensure accountability and learning and fix issues
  • Report out to VP of Operations, CEO and the whole organization on your team’s performance on KPIs such as number of boxes packed, perfect order rate, number of boxes with missing items, labor cost per box, etc. Take ownership of these goals and take pride in continually improving them over time.
  • Work with HQ and CSF to implement internal software tools to increase efficiency
  • Ensure food safety plans are being followed by CSF

About You

  • + years experience in a General Manager / Assistant General Manager role
  • Mastery of process optimization techniques and process flow improvements
  • Understands all part of a logistics business – purchasing, operations, marketing sales
  • Experience working in the produce industry
  • Knowledge of inventory management and operations software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Energetic and excited about Imperfect
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to problem-solve and think on your feet (A.K.A. a mental juggler)
  • Excels at independent, unsupervised work

Details of position
This position reports to the VP of Operations Full-time exempt position. Ideal start date is early March. Salary and employee stock options commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package provided.

Position is based out of downtown Los Angeles warehouse. Interviews given on rolling basis as applications come in.
